Today in church we has a relief society lesson on mental health. Many people in this world have to the goal to be more like Jesus each and every day. The children song "I am trying to be like Jesus" is about the longing to be as perfect as our Savior. Since mental illness can get in the way with our perception of perfection, we are scared of it and see it as bad juju. Because of this there is too much ignorance and silent suffering. I have felt overwhelmed at times because I haven't felt like I meet the standard and have no place in this Church. How awful is that? I know many of you have struggled with depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. We need to learn how to confront these peaks of trails and not let ourselves be deceived by this myth.

In a talk by Elder Kopischke given in the October 2021 conference he said "It is important to remember that the Savior loves each of His Father's children. He fully comprehends the pain and the struggle that many experience as they live with a broad range of mental health challenges." The Savior took upon our pains and afflictions, he understands all afflictions and knows how to heal the brokenhearted. I like when he says that our challenges show a need for additional tools and support, they are not a character defect.

Heavenly Father and I want you to know that you are not alone. They is so much love around you and there is hope in darkness. As we learn to be more accepting, more compassionate, and more loving we can be perfected in him. We need to always be looking out for each other and doing what Jesus would do if he were to walk the Earth today.

Personally there has been many people in my life who have struggled with metal health as well has myself. I have come to learn that is a normal thing and there is so much out there to make it better. I have tried my best to learn and be compassionate to those around me. You never know what is going on in some ones head. Always lend a listening ear to others. Check in on yourself daily. Take care of yourself. Take time to do what brings you joy. Go easy on yourself. Taking a mentally sick day is just as important as a physically sick day. Seek him, seek help, seek your loved ones, and hold fast to iron rod. He promises all will be okay.
